Underwriter Jobs
Essential Job Function:
Underwrites a minimum of 4-6 conventional and government residential loans per day, assuring compliance with Clear Progress and secondary marketing investor standards.

Responsibilities:
  • Examines the overall loan documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Reviews loan-to-value ratios, credit reports, applications and appraisals to ensure that each loan meets the secondary marketing guidelines, as well as investor and company underwriting policies. This will include underwriting conforming, non-conforming, expanded criteria, FHA/VA and HELOC loans.
  • Communicates underwriting decisions to Business Partners and ensures that support staff and Business Partners receive the information necessary to properly structure and finalize incomplete loan packages.
  • Works loan scenarios with Business Partners
  • Orders review appraisals from fee appraisers when necessary.
  • Informs manager of the status of problem files and requests assistance when appropriate.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of tax return analysis for self-employed borrowers (including corporation, sole proprietorships and partnerships).

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5-7 years of underwriting experience or a demonstrated knowledge of the underwriting of mortgage loan applications for consumer, commercial or other loan instruments.
  • Accurate knowledge of key secondary market investors.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of investor product guidelines.
  • Specific experience, knowledge and/or certification to underwrite conforming, non-conforming, expanded criteria, FHA/VA and HELOC loans.
  • Knowledge of underwriting software and general business procedures.
  • Excellent communication, financial analysis and typing (35wpm) skills.

Preferred Skills/Experience:
  • DE and VA/Lapp certification.
